To filter by a particular topic and see a smaller section of the data, make a selection on the dropdown “Filters” menu or click “Search” to do a keyword search. Hover over the abbreviated filter tags in the blue boxes to see the complete name of the filter, or click a filter to display all the data with this tag. George Washington gives permission to set up hospitals for sick troops.

As a result of the Commander-in-Chief of the Revolutionary Army's actions in the war, the Second Continental Congress will authorize the formation of more hospitals. Responding to a nursing shortage, Congress will increase nurses' pay during the first year of federal rule. The new hospitals are to be staffed at the ratio of one nurse for every ten patients.
