POV

The UpJohn Company, which takes advantage of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of Depo-Provera, sells the injectable contraceptive, and increases its price from $12 to $34 within the year. Nevertheless, UpJohn maintains that the price is in line with the cost of birth control pills.

While there is still political critique by the women's health movement of it being coercively used on Women of Color who are not told of its side effects, now the cost of the contraceptive will make it difficult for people who are low-income to be able to obtain it if they choose.
