The Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Agreement is signed.
Date: 1994
This World Trade Organization (WTO) agreement applies property rights to intellectual property within the global sphere.
It is a multinational agreement that will be used to justify higher drug prices across countries. The biggest challenge to the agreement comes from multiple African countries who begin to produce drugs to fight AIDS, and distribute them for free or at low cost to local communities rather than paying high international prices.
