Founded by Charon Asetoyer, the center begins as the Native American Community Board (NACB) on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, with an initial focus on fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS).

Working with Indigenous women locally, nationally, and internationally, the organization provides shelter and transitional housing for survivors of domestic violence today.
