POV

"The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal funds from covering abortion services for people enrolled in Medicaid, Medicare and the Children’s Health Insurance Program" (Guttmacher, 2021).

This disproportionately affects poor and working-class women, People of Color, and Indigenous communities who rely on federal funds for their reproductive health services.

This goes on to deepen huge gaps and medical inequities for People of Color, particularly Black and immigrant communities, who are often prevented from accessing quality reproductive healthcare including contraception as well as safe and dignified abortions. Meanwhile, privatized services continue to be available for wealthy people.
