Frederick Hoffman is a highly respected statistician when he publishes Race Traits and Tendencies of the American Negro. He uses Gould’s research to argue that “the smaller lung capacity of the colored race is in itself proof of an inferior physical organism." He will become an influential figure in codifying scientific racism.
