Led by Dr. Joseph Goldzieher of the Southwest Foundation for Research and Education, Syntex Labs, and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) test for symptoms of "nervousness and depression" on a group composed of at least 80% Mexican-American women.

The women are not informed that they are part of an experiment, nor that they may be receiving a placebo (a fake pill without contraceptive effects) for birth control. Seven women became pregnant and are forced to carry to term because of Texas' anti-abortion laws.
