Bayer distributes blood from people who are HIV positive in Latin America.
Date: 1984
Bayer Pharmaceuticals, along with Baxter Healthcare Corporation, Armour Pharmaceutical Company, and Alpha Therapeutic Corporation, spends two years distributing blood products created for people with hemophilia in Latin America, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other locations.
However, these products were not adequately tested for the presence of HIV. As such, a class action lawsuit will be filed against the four companies charging them with buying blood and plasma from high-risk groups of people. At least 100 people will become HIV positive as a result of receiving this blood.
